California Gov. Gavin Newsom hiked taxes on cannabis sellers in the state from 15% to 19%. The hike will go into effect on July 1, and comes amid the legal industry struggling and businesses closing, SF Gate reports. The tax hike is an effort to raise more revenue from the stateās legal cannabis industry, but may actually undercut the legal market.
DeSantis curtails FL ballot initiative process š
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a bill that would hamper citizensā ability to put initiatives on the state ballot ā which, perhaps, may not bode well for the push to get legal cannabis on the 2026 ballot. DeSantis vociferously opposed Amendment 3, the ballot measure that wouldāve legalized cannabis last November that ultimately failed.

Acting DEA Administrator Derek Maltz had his last day on the job Friday. Heās set to be replaced by Terrance Cole on a full-time basis.
