Congress not sure how hemp ban would be enforced 🤷

A new Congressional report shows that there’s uncertainty about how the recently-approved federal hemp ban would be enforced once it goes into effect on Nov. 12. The report notes that the DOJ currently maintains a hands-off approach to enforcing marijuana's illegal status. It also notes that there may not be enough capacity to enforce the hemp ban, given the industry substantial growth since it was legalized by the 2018 Farm Bill. 

Ohio could recriminalize cross-border cannabis purchases 👮

The Ohio legislature is expected to pass new hemp regulations by the end of this week that also include provisions that would outlaw purchasing legal cannabis in Michigan and bringing it home to the Buckeye State, along with possessing cannabis in a container other than the package in which it was bought. Kentucky could still get first medical sales by end of the year 💲

Gov. Andy Beshear said  he remains optimistic the first medical cannabis sales would take place "within weeks," during his weekly press update. There are currently about 24,000 registered patients and 48 dispensaries across the state that have been approved, and Beshear said that he expects a shop in Ohio County to be the first that is ready for sales. Florida senator files medical homegrow bill 🌱

State Sen. Carlos Smith filed SB 776 which would allow registered medical patients to grow up to six plants for their own supply of cannabis. Last year's attempt to legalize cannabis  in the state was criticized by advocates for lacking a home grow provision. Despite the move, there is no companion bill in the state house, and previous attempts to legalize home grow through the legislature have fallen short. Florida Politics has more

High Tide keeps expanding Canna Cabana footprint

High Tide announced on Dec. 5 that it plans to open three new Canna Cabana retail outlets in Ontario and Alberta. The openings will bring the company's total store count up to 218.
