💡What’s the big deal?

NY, NY
New York’s cannabis sales hit nearly $1.3 billion this year 🗽

Driving the news: New York’s Cannabis Control Board (CCB) met on Monday.

The Empire State’s legal market is booming. Regulators report nearly $1.3 billion in sales this year.

Check out the chart:

License approvals continue: The CCB approved 33 licenses. Those approvals include 11 cultivator, two distributor, three microbusiness, six processor, eight retail and two conditional adult-use retail dispensary licenses.

But, from the 1,603 applications received in November 2023, 275 are still under review. And there are still 2,704 retail applications from the December 2023 queue that also await review.

What they’re saying: “I’m here to lose money. I consider myself a real good businessman, but this is the dumbest decision I’ve ever made. The dumbest decision I’ve ever made, to join this program and lose money,” Gary Guzman, a prospective cannabis entrepreneur and Conditional Adult Use Retail (CAURD) applicant who said he is still waiting to hear about his license.

Guzman dropped his mic, literally, and walked out as the meeting ended.
